Election Commission bowed to Centre: Kejriwal on deferred MCD poll dates
India TodayCalling the postponement of the announcement of the dates for the Municipal Corporations of Delhi elections a threat to the country’s democracy, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal alleged that "this was the first time that the Centre has written to a State Election Commission to postpone polls". “Forcing the EC to cancel elections is unprecedented, unconstitutional, and bad for democracy,” Kejriwal said. He said that the "postponement was done soon after the Centre wrote to the EC, asking it to defer the polls as it wanted to combine the three municipal corporations — North Delhi Municipal Corporation, the South Delhi Municipal Corporation and the East Delhi Municipal Corporation". “The Centre seeking postponement of the MCD election is not right for democracy nor is the SEC bowing down to such pressure,” Kejriwal said.
