14th Century Jaunpur Atala Mosque Row | Allahabad HC Seeks Reply Of Plaintiffs In Suit Claiming Masjid To Be A Temple
Live LawThe Allahabad High Court has called for a counter affidavit from the plaintiffs in a suit moved before a Civil Court in Jaunour, claiming that the 14th Century Atala Mosque in Jaunpur was originally an ancient Hindu temple of Atala Devi. The suit, moved by the Swaraj Vahini Association and one Santosh Kumar Mishra, seeks a declaration that the disputed property is 'Atala Devi Mandir'. The Allahabad High Court has called for a counter affidavit from the plaintiffs in a suit moved before a Civil Court in Jaunour, claiming that the 14th Century Atala Mosque in Jaunpur was originally an ancient Hindu temple of Atala Devi. Further, the suit The Waqf Atala Mosque recently moved before the HC, challenging both orders and contending that the revision plea against the trial court's order was dismissed solely on non-maintainability grounds. It may be noted that in their plaint filed before the Jaunpur Civil Court, the plaintiffs claim that the Atala Devi Mandir, built by Raja Vijay Chandra in the 13th century, was a Hindu temple where rituals like puja, sewa, and kirtan were performed.
