Syed Ali Shah Geelani's aide hired terrorists to kill lawyer in 2020: Police

A close aide of late Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani was involved in the 2020 murder of prominent advocate and television panellist, Babar Qadri, as per the chargesheet filed by the Jammu and Kashmir Police. In the chargesheet, accessed by India Today TV, the police alleged the direct involvement of Mian Abdul Qayoom, the former President of the High Court Bar Association Kashmir and a close aide of Geelani. However, in July 2023, the case was handed over to the State Investigation Agency, a specialised wing of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, amid concerns about threats to Qadri’s family and interference in judicial proceedings. His trial, initially held in Srinagar, was transferred to Jammu by the High Court of J&K in December 2023, citing threats to Qadri’s family and concerns about judicial interference.
