TGSRTC the New Name for Bus Service

Hyderabad: State-owned organisations have started dropping the BRS-era abbreviation of ‘TS’ to denote Telangana state, and are shifting to the newly approved ‘TG’ nomenclature. The TGSRTC transports around 55 lakh passengers daily, about 30 lakh of them being women who travel free of charge. In an interview with Deccan Chronicle earlier, transport minister Ponnam Prabhakar had explained, “This change reflects the desire and self-respect of the people of Telangana, who strived and sacrificed for the new state. With the formation of the Congress government, the people’s desire to change the suffix TG will be fulfilled.” Recently, the central government released a gazette notification published by the ministry of road transport and highways, officially changing the state code from TS to TG on vehicle registration plates in Telangana.
