Does AI kill creativity?
The HinduThe use of generative Artificial Intelligence in education has recently sparked widespread discussion and debate at conferences and other platforms about its impact on student learning. The purposes for which creative artists use AI tools are quite different from those for which students and teachers use them. AI, as a good mentor or an educational tool, can instil confidence in learners, arouse their curiosity, empower them to critically evaluate generated content, spark creativity, synthesise information, edit or translate content into any language, help them improve their language skills, organise study materials, develop learner autonomy, and enhance personalised learning by making it more effective and enjoyable. AI has empowered many academics, researchers, and students who now feel that language should no longer be a barrier to expressing their novel ideas and research findings, as AI tools assist with language-related tasks. AI literacy, as defined by DigitalPromise.org, refers to “the knowledge and skills that enable people to critically understand, evaluate, and use AI systems and tools to safely and effectively participate in an increasingly digital world.” Just a few years ago, this term was virtually unknown, but it has now become a key concept in modern education, making it essential to ensure students are AI literate.
