Grain silo continues to burn at Bomaderry, fire crews work to limit explosion risk

ABC

In short: The fire broke out at the Manildra plant in Bomaderry yesterday, leading to 15 staff being evacuated from the site. Fire and Rescue NSW says crews and specialists are working to mitigate the risk of a dust explosion as the blaze continues to burn. "There are a number of options that are being discussed with onsite engineers for Fire and Rescue NSW, a scientific officer, hazmat teams, and firefighters." Inspector Rick Jones said the decision came after consultation with a Fire and Rescue scientific officer and staff Manildra plant staff. "The plan today is to pump the top of the silo with carbon dioxide, which will minimise the risk of any potential dust explosion," he said.
