Private mill workers demand fair compensation after sudden closure of factory

Following the closure of a private textile unit in Thoothukudi, the workers sought fair compensation and submitted a petition at the weekly grievance meeting held at the Collectorate on Monday. M. Jayaprakash, a former employee of the organisation, alleged that the factory management threatened the workers and forced them into accepting the voluntary retirement under duress. They also noted that the private textile mill continued operation in over 20 countries, including two locations in Tamil Nadu such as Ambasamudram and Madurai. The grievance redressal meeting led by the District Revenue Officer C. Ajay Srinivasan received petitions from various parts of the district.
