Thus, it was not surprising when Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, on his Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, became a fan of Meghalaya's pineapples, saying they were the most delicious he had ever had. "The Meghalaya pineapples are famous for their high sugar content, and they are less sour," he reportedly said. Speaking to IndiaToday.in, M Dkhar, deputy director, Agriculture Department, said pineapple farmers in Meghalaya still cultivate the fruit using old-fashioned and natural methods without artificial fertilisers or insecticides.
