Disabled students should make up 5% of total induction in varsity: HC to JNU
India TodayThe Delhi High Court has issued a statement on Friday, in which it asked the Jawaharlal Nehru University to make sure that five percent of the total induction of students in the varsity should comprise of students belonging to the Persons With Disabilities category. After being issued the order from Delhi High Court, the varsity assured the court that the five percent induction of disabled students was being met at the end of the admissions. JNU has also told the court that the mandate to ensure a five percent reservation for students with disabilities has never been violated in the varsity. In view of the latest stand of the varsity, the high court disposed of a PIL by the Javed Abidi Foundation, which works for the welfare of disabled persons, claiming that JNU has kept less than five percent seats for the disabled category in the academic session 2020-21.
