China reports nearly 60,000 COVID-related deaths in a month
Op IndiaChina’s health authorities disclosed on Saturday, January 14, that nearly 60,000 Covid-related deaths occurred in the country during the last one month. Jiao Yahui, the head of the Bureau of Medical Administration under the National Health Commission, told a press conference that the country logged in 59,938 Covid-related deaths between December 8, 2022, and January 12 this year. The government relaxed all the ‘toughest’ restrictions imposed upon people’s movements in China as a part of the ‘zero Covid’ policy, likely resulting in a spike of cases across the land. While China wants the world to believe its numbers of cases and the vaccine developments, the World Health Organisation said that China is “heavily underreporting” the number of COVID-19 deaths from the current wave of the virus sweeping the country.
