Flag football, cricket among sports poised to join L.A. 2028 Olympic program

LA28 chairperson Casey Wasserman said the proposed sports “ignite the imagination on the field of play and drive culture off it,” adding, “They’re relevant, innovative and community-based, played in backyards, schoolyards, community centers, stadiums and parks across the U.S. and the globe.” Flag football is a non-contact, five-on-five version of American football, where the equivalent of tackles are made by pulling a flag off the ball carrier’s belt. The NFL has been among the biggest proponents of adding flag football to the Olympic program as part of its push to make football a global sport.
