Mary Fowler scores late goal in Manchester City's 2-1 WSL loss to Everton

ABC

Mary Fowler has scored a late penalty but it proved in vain as Manchester City missed the chance to close the gap on Women's Super League champions Chelsea in a 2-1 defeat at Everton. Fowler's 89th-minute spot kick gave her side late hope, however Everton held on to beat City for the first time in the WSL. Everton's stalwart Australian midfielder Clare Wheeler put in a solid shift in only the Toffees' second league win of the season. Everton's win dealt a crushing blow to City's hopes after Chelsea had opened the door at the top of the WSL standings by drawing 1-1 with lowly Leicester the previous day.
