Steelers decline Najee Harris, Justin Fields’ fifth-year options: Source
The Pittsburgh Steelers declined the fifth-year option on running back Najee Harris, their 2021 first-round pick, a team source confirmed Thursday. The team also opted not to give newly acquired quarterback Justin Fields a fifth-year option, according to a team source, only months after being traded from the Chicago Bears. Harris, 26, has compiled three consecutive 1,000-yard rushing seasons as the team’s primary running back. They could be forced to move on in 2025 without Harris for what would have been $6.79 million — which would rank 12th in annual average among running backs.
