'For privacy to his family': Congress on missing Manmohan Singh's ashes immersion
India TodayThe Congress party on Monday issued a clarification over the absence of the Gandhi family and other party leaders during the ash immersion rituals of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, saying the decision was taken in order to respect the privacy of the family. Congress leader Pawan Khera said that senior leaders such as Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and others did not join the ritual of gathering and immersing the ashes of Dr Manmohan Singh "out of our deference to the privacy of the family". The senior Congress leader also said that Sonia Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra met Dr Singh's family after his cremation. The clarification came after several BJP leaders, including Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, criticised Congress leaders for not accompanying Dr Singh's family when his ashes were immersed in the Yamuna river while BJP leaders were present.
