There was some surprise at St Mary’s this week when Armstrong was named in the Scotland squad for their forthcoming World Cup qualifying matches against Israel and Faroe Islands, despite not having resumed first-team training. “There is a lot of work to do and I hope that he sees this and he invests everything to get back to that level.” Hasenhuttl also said one or two players were nursing minor knocks and niggles but nothing serious enough to put their involvement in the game at Chelsea in jeopardy.
