Cabinet reshuffle: Rajiv Pratap Rudy resigns, Suresh Prabhu likely on his way out

There have been clear indications of an upcoming cabinet reshuffle from sources in the government and the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party, but the timing remains uncertain After a spate of train mishaps, railway minister Suresh Prabhu may well be on his way out. As talks of cabinet reshuffle gains momentum with the resignation of skills development minister Rajiv Pratap Rudy, and the appointment of Mahendra Nath Pandey, former minister of state in the HRD ministry, as the state president of BJP Uttar Pradesh, sources in the party say, it’s only matter of time till Prabhu is shown the door. A reshuffle has also been on the cards after the Janata Dal faction of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar joined the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance and is all set to join the Union Cabinet. The last cabinet reshuffle took place in July last year in which Modi inducted 19 new faces and elevated Minister of State for Environment Prakash Javadekar to cabinet rank.
