Third lockdown has triggered an 'unprecedented crisis' in mental health issues
The Telegraph“We’re in an unprecedented mental health crisis. Social isolation, loneliness, stress and anxiety, domestic abuse, bereavement, financial difficulties, unemployment and severe Covid-19 infection are all factors that have led to an increase in workload for mental health services." A DHSC spokesperson said: “We recognise the impact of the pandemic on people’s mental health and wellbeing which is why mental health services have remained open throughout the pandemic. “Those who are experiencing a mental health crisis can access urgent support and advice from 24/7 urgent mental health helplines, and we have provided £50 million to support people returning home from inpatient facilities. “We are publishing the Mental Health Act White Paper, to ensure the needs of those with severe mental illness are better met by ensuring our legislation is built on the foundations of empowerment and equality.” Claire Murdoch, mental health director for the NHS, said: “The pandemic has turned lives upside down and it is a sad fact that the mental health impact has been profound, with thousands of people experiencing mental health problems for the first time, or seeing them return.
