In a podcast hosted by The Indian Express, Shashi Tharoor claimed he was the frontrunner among Congress leaders in Kerala, citing "opinion polls conducted by independent organisations". American writer and journalist Sadanand Dhume says that if Tharoor floated a party, it would be "a breath of fresh air", though it might not necessarily translate into electoral success. "I think Shashi Tharoor should found a new political party that rejects both the crackpot leftist economics and caste-based politics of the Congress and the status quoist economics and religion-based politics of the BJP. Tharoor, the global diplomat who has latched onto the Congress since 2009, might now have the option of "having his own party in Kerala with many others like him at the helm", feels veteran journalist and political commentator MG Radhakrishnan.
