Top 10 Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita provisions every CLAT aspirant should know
India TodayThree new criminal laws came into effect this July, marking a significant shift in India's criminal justice system. The Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam have replaced the outdated colonial-era laws-the Indian Penal Code of 1860, the Code of Criminal Procedure of 1973, and the Indian Evidence Act of 1872. LIST OF NEW CRIMES ADDED Unlike the Indian Penal Code, the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita consists of 358 sections. MOB LYNCHING The Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita includes mob lynching as an offence, defining it as murder or grievous hurt committed by five or more individuals on grounds such as race, caste, sex, language, or personal belief. ORGANISED CRIME For the first time, organised crime is comprehensively addressed at the national level in the newly enacted Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
