DDoS attacks remain high in Q2: 241% increase in avg peak bandwidth reported

In Q2 2014, the average attack bandwidth was up 72 percent from the same quarter in 2013, and moreover average peak bandwidth increased by staggering 241 percent. Distributed denial-of-service attacks continue in high numbers and with high average and peak bandwidths throughout the second quarter of 2014, according to a new report by Prolexic, an Akamai company. The ‘Prolexic Quarterly Global DDoS Attack Report Q2 2014’ report noted that number of DDoS attacks increased 22 percent over Q2 figures a year ago. Reflection and amplification attacks were more popular compared to Q2 last year as well as last quarter, representing more than 15 percent of all infrastructure attacks.
