Bombay High Court refuses to interfere with BMC's circular on animal sacrifices for Bakr Eid

India Today

The Bombay High Court on Tuesday disposed of two petitions, seeking directions to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation to increase the permitted number of sacrifices of water buffaloes at Deonar Abattoir in Mumbai on Bakr Eid. Petitioners Al-Quarish Human Welfare Association and All India Jamiatul Quresh, however, requested the Court to increase the permit in the slaughterhouse from 300 to 700 animals per day as they expected thousands to turn up at the abbattoir. Refusing to interfere with the circular, the High Court held that the grievance for slaughtering location has been sorted by the BMC. The High Court hoped that BMC will ensure proper implementation of the circular, keeping in mind the protocols for dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic.
