Scientists have discovered that fragments of another star system Alpha Centauri may already be here, quietly drifting through space and even falling to Earth. But evidence suggests that material ejected from Alpha Centauri has already made the long journey across space and some of it may be within our Solar System right now. As Alpha Centauri moves closer, the flow of interstellar particles into our Solar System is expected to increase, peaking when the star system reaches its closest approach. Scientists estimate that there could already be around a million objects larger than 100 meters lurking in the Oort Cloud, a distant shell of icy bodies surrounding our Solar System.
