Pregnant woman dies at Bengal hospital, family alleges expired saline administered

India Today

A 21-year-old pregnant woman died, and two others are critically ill after allegedly being administered expired saline at the Midnapore Medical College and Hospital in West Bengal on Friday. The pregnant woman, identified as Mamoni Rui Das, had given birth on Wednesday but was moved to the Intensive Care Unit on Thursday after her condition worsened. The critically ill patients, who remain in the ICU, are under close observation as hospital authorities face mounting accusations of administering expired saline. Either expired saline was used, or there was some error in treatment,” claimed a family member of one of the affected patients.
