Employees’ Salaries, Pension Paid Till December; January’s Payment Will Be Released Soon: MCD Commissioner To Delhi High Court
Live LawThe Commissioner of Municipal Corporation of Delhi Thursday informed the Delhi High Court that the salaries and pension of civic body’s employees have been paid and cleared till December last year and payment for the month of January will be done within two to three days. A division bench of Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice Subramonium Prasad was hearing a bunch of pleas moved in 2020, the wake of COVID-19, over non-payment of salaries to various employees of MCD. The MCD Commissioner was present in the court, after he and Finance and Urban Development Secretaries of the Delhi Government, were summoned over failure to make payment of salaries to various employees, safai karamcharis and teachers of the civic body. Earlier this week, the bench had observed that it is unfortunate that class III and IV employees are not being paid despite assurance of making payments “from time to time.” It had noted that on December 21, 2022, the counsels appearing for contemnors - Delhi Government and MCD, had jointly stated that all payments will be released as soon as possible, preferably within four weeks.
