Opposition leaders march with placards from Parliament over suspension of 143 MPs
India TodayOpposition MPs from the INDIA bloc took to the streets in a march from Parliament House to Vijay Chowk in Delhi on Thursday to protest against the mass suspension of lawmakers this week. Congress chief and Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge took aim at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for not addressing the security breach in Parliament. Bearing placards that said 'Parliament caged, democracy expelled', leaders from opposition parties took out a protest march from Parliament to Vijay Chowk over the suspension of 143 opposition MPs from both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha — the first time in India’s history. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, speaking to reporters, said it was a matter of breach of privilege of the House that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah had spoken outside Parliament while it was in session and did not apprise the House over the Lok Sabha security breach incident. “We are repeatedly requesting Lok Sabha Speaker, Rajya Sabha Chairman to allow us to speak on security breach, but ruling party MPs are disrupting proceedings," Kharge said.
