Netaji's resistance, not Gandhi's, forced British to quit: Tamil Nadu Governor
India TodayTamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi said that Mahatma Gandhi's Non-Cooperation movement had little impact, but it was the military resistance of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose that led to the exit of Britishers from India. Attending an event on the 127th birth anniversary of Netaji at Anna University in Chennai, the Governor said, “After the Second World War began, the Non-Cooperation movement by the Indian National Congress fizzled out. The Azad Hind Sarkar, backed by a military led by an able Commander, fought the British on the ground and defeated the British in several pockets of their stronghold," the Governor said. “When Justice Chakraborthy asked if the Britishers left India due to non-cooperation of the Indian National Congress, Attlee said that the effect was ‘minimal’, but they left as they felt insecure after the Navy revolt and the Air Force rebellion,” the Governor said.
