Two Bangladeshi fishing trawlers with 78 onboard seized for illegal fishing by Indian Coast Guard
The HinduIn a significant operation, the Indian Coast Guard on December 9 had apprehended two Bangladeshi fishing trawlers along with 78 fisherfolk onboard. “The ICG Ship Amogh, while on patrol along the International Maritime Boundary Line, identified suspicious activity within the Indian Maritime Zone,” ICG sources said. “The ICG ship intercepted two Bangladesh fishing trawlers engaged in unauthorised fishing activities within India waters.” ICG sources further said the trawlers were inspected at sea and subsequently booked under the Maritime Zones of India Act, 1981. Earlier in August, days after former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned and fled the country, the ICG had announced that it had increased surveillance along the India-Bangladesh IMBL.
