EPFO introduces face authentication for UAN generation. Know details

The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation subscribers can now generate their Universal Account Number and access related services using face authentication, thereby making the process simpler and more convenient. According to the circular dated Aptil 9, 2025, released by the Press Information Bureau, “This contactless and secure service marks a major leap in providing hassle-free and fully digital experiences to crores of EPFO members.” Until now, most UANs were created by employers after submitting employee details to the EPFO. "Biometric authentication using Face Authentication provides a higher level of security compared to traditional methods such as demographic or OTP-based authentication. The press release also mentioned, “EPFO will also be promoting digital life certificates through Jeevan Pramaan using the Face Authentication Technology by collaborating with volunteers from MY Bharat to provide services to pensioners at their doorstep shortly.” In the financial year 2024-25, EPFO issued 1.27 crore UANs.
