With Alex DeBrincat trade, Kyle Davidson has Blackhawks on a new path, right or wrong
New York TimesMore coverage: Lazerus: Alex DeBrincat trade a short-sighted move the Blackhawks likely will regret Follow our live coverage of the 2022 NHL Draft. Davidson made his boldest move as general manager to date — and what will possibly be the boldest move of his career — by trading Alex DeBrincat, a proven 40-goal scorer, in his prime to the Ottawa Senators for the seventh and 39th picks in this year’s draft and a third-round pick in 2024. I do know DeBrincat’s value in the trade market was diminished because he’s due another contract after next season, and not many teams were willing to give up a massive package for a player they’re unsure will re-sign with them and if they’d be willing to commit in the range of $9 million on a long-term deal. And, sure, there’s an argument to make that in five years DeBrincat would still be a valuable piece for the Blackhawks.
