Unemployment rises for the first time in 10 months despite continuing jobs boom

Australia's unemployment rate has ticked up to 3.5 per cent in August, from 3.4 per cent the month before. ANZ's senior economist Catherine Birch said some of the same factors were pushing many people into multiple jobs. "It's easier for people to find that additional job who aren't getting enough hours in their current job," she told The Business. " Low jobless rate 'won't persist forever' AMP senior economist Diana Mousina said that a fall in underemployment meant that the underutilisation rate remained unchanged at 9.4 per cent — its lowest level since 1982.
