Jet Airways management said to propose temporary shutdown

Mumbai/Bengaluru: The management of Jet Airways Ltd has proposed a temporary shutdown of the struggling airline, Indian media reported Tuesday, as the company awaits promised funds from banks in a rescue deal. Jet Airways shares fell as much as 18.3% to their lowest level since August 2015 following reports of a planned temporary shutdown, as the future of the once-dominant Indian airline appeared increasingly uncertain. "Lenders are committed to a revival plan for Jet Airways," Punjab National Bank's managing director Sunil Mehta told media on Tuesday. Separately, an Indian government official told media Jet Airways' funding was likely to come through and that the banks were not looking to take the airline to bankruptcy court.
