Prisons Dept. set to integrate digital tools for better security, surveillance and rehabilitation
The HinduTelangana’s prison system is set to undergo a technological upgrade with the distribution of electronic gadgets under the Modernisation of Prison Funds and Inter-Operable Criminal Justice System Project. The initiative, aimed at strengthening security, transparency, and administrative efficiency, was formally launched at a distribution event attended by V. V. Srinivasa Rao, Director of Telangana Police Academy, and Chairman of Telangana Police Recruitment Board, along with senior prison officials. The project involves the distribution of desktop computers, multi-functional printers, UPS systems, webcams, CCTVs, walkie-talkies, body-worn cameras, and LED searchlights to prisons across Telangana, with a total investment of ₹2 crore. With automated record-keeping and improved surveillance, prison authorities will be better equipped to monitor inmate behaviour, manage security, and ensure smooth coordination with law enforcement agencies. Beyond security and administrative improvements, the project aims to support inmate rehabilitation by providing access to computers and digital tools for education and skill development programmes.
