What Roope Hintz’s 8-year extension means to the Stars

New York Times

The Stars won their 13th game of the season in St. Louis on Monday but their biggest win of the season came just after that game ended. We play against Edmonton, if there’s anybody that can skate with McDavid, it’s Roope Hintz.” It’s not the first time Hintz has been mentioned in the same breath as the best player in the world. Last season, division rival head coach Dean Evason of the Minnesota Wild said, “just as we talk about with Connor McDavid and having gaps everywhere on a player like that, that can separate in a hurry, you’ve got to be close to him.” Hintz is the type of player one would create in a lab. “Everybody talks about his offense and everything else, man, you can put him on any situation — penalty killing, against the best lines — Roope is one of the best two-way forwards in this league.” Hintz’s contract extension loomed large over the Stars. Since Hintz’s contract extension kicks in next season and runs through 2031, he is the longest-tenured player in the Stars organization.
