Amid growing economic woes, Pakistan stops clearance of bills, salaries: Report

In the wake of worsening economic difficulties, the Pakistan Finance Ministry has directed the Accountant General of Pakistan Revenues to block the salaries of all federal government employees, including cabinet members, as per a local media report. The report follows after the Pakistan government headed by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif decided to implement a string of measures to avert a financial crisis in the cash-strapped country. As the country’s financial condition deteriorates, the government directed the AGPR to cease the clearing of bills, including salaries of government employees, The News reported on Saturday.
