A case of cyber fraud has emerged in Ahmedabad, where a 65-year-old retired government employee was swindled out of Rs 1.29 crore by scammers who threatened him with arrest in a terror-funding and money-laundering case. The scam began when the retiree received a Facebook friend request from a woman who called herself Nish Williams. The scammers promised that the money would be deposited into a new bank account in his name at Standard Chartered Bank, and any remaining amount would be returned after covering necessary expenses. The scammers further gained his trust by requesting personal details, including his Aadhaar card, PAN card, email ID, and bank account information, which he provided.
