Deadline for 60% Kannada signage in Bengaluru ends: What happens next?
India TodayThe deadline for changing signboards in Bengaluru to ensure Kannada-English is in a 60:40 ratio ended on Wednesday, February 28. Starting today, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike will take strict action against shops that have not complied with the directive, with establishments running the risk of suspension of trade licenses. The order, mandated by BBMP Chief Tushar Giri Nath in December, required all commercial establishments in the city to allocate 60 per cent of the space on their signboards to the Kannada language. According to BBMP Special Health Commissioner Vikas Kishore, special health officers will be deployed to inspect shops zone-wise and ensure compliance with the 60:40 order. In a recent development, the BBMP took action against K L Vishwanath, a senior health officer from KR Puram, after videos surfaced on social media showing BBMP workers forcefully removing English letters from the name boards of shops.
