Analysis | Independents, JJP hold the key to power in Haryana
The HinduWith the Congress and the BJP locked in a fierce electoral contest, leading in 31 and 38 seats respectively in the 90-member Haryana Assembly, the Jannayak Janta Party, which leads in 11 seats, and six Independents could play a pivotal role in the formation of the government in the State. Mr. Setia was leading with over 2,000 votes against Haryana Lokhit Party’s Gopal Kanda, who was Minister of State for Home in Haryana in 2009 in the Congress government. Leading against Haryana Lokhit Party’s Gobind Kanda with a margin of over 14,000 votes, Independent candidate Ranjit Singh is an uncle of JJP leader and former Hisar MP Dushyant Chautala. Former Kurukshetra MP Raj Kumar Saini, who quit the BJP to float the Loktanter Suraksha Party, is leading against the Congress’ Jagbir Malik from Gohana by over 6,000 votes.
