Food Security in China

Food Security in China Based on its own national conditions and food availability, China has embarked on a road to establishing food security in its own way by implementing the concepts of innovative, coordinated, green, open, and inclusive development, the requirements of high-quality development, and a national food security strategy for a new era. We have designated 60 million hectares of functional areas for grain production, such as rice, wheat and corn, and nearly 15 million hectares of protected areas for the production of important agricultural products such as soybeans and rapeseed. China has formulated a series of plans, including the Outline of the Thirteenth Five-year Plan for National Economic and Social Development of the People's Republic of China, Outline of the Medium-and Long-term Plan for National Food Security, National Plan for an Increase of Production Capacity for 50 Billion Kg of Food, Outline of China's Food and Nutrition Development, National Agriculture Sustainable Development Plan, National Land Planning Outline, National Rural Vitalization Strategic Plan, and Outline of the 13th Five-year Development Plan for the Food Industry. Local grain reserves are mainly used in the regional market to meet emergencies, stabilize grain prices and guarantee supply, which is the first line of defense of national food security.
