Has Queensland hit its COVID-19 vaccine ceiling?
ABCQueensland is expected to cross the 90 per cent vaccination rate threshold for those aged 16 and over this week, but data shows the pace that people are getting vaccinated has slowed. Queensland's Deputy Premier Steven Miles said all that was needed to achieve that goal was "for all of those people who have had their first dose to get the second dose". According to infectious disease specialist Dr Paul Griffin, trends elsewhere have shown vaccination rates "slow towards the end," given people who have resisted getting vaccinated and "have resisted all the other efforts to try to get them vaccinated". Mixed messaging slows vaccine uptake Dr Griffin said he also thought government messaging had been "a little bit mixed". 'An uphill battle' Dr Griffin said vaccinating the remaining stragglers would be "an uphill battle", but high vaccination numbers in other states showed there was a blueprint for achieving a higher rate.
