In the 2019 Assembly election, the BJP won 105, Shiv Sena, 56, and NCP, 54—combined, they won a total of 215 seats. If many found this result perplexing, it is because everyone assumed that the people would be angry with the political games played by the BJP in the last five years by splitting two big parties. The waves of sympathy for Uddhav Thackeray and Sharad Pawar, anger against Ajit Pawar and Eknath Shinde and a resentment towards BJP came to the fore in the the Lok Sabha election. Perhaps there will be a time in the future when BJP and Ajit Pawar’s party will be on one side and the Congress and Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena on the other.
