Arm is making its own chips this year and Meta could be its first customer

India Today

Arm is reportedly starting to make its own chips this year, and Meta is apparently already in line to be its first customer. Arm –– which is primarily owned by SoftBank –– will be making data centre CPUs for Meta and will unveil its first in-house chip by this summer, according to a The Financial Times report. The new Arm chips will be CPUs for large data center servers and will be customisable for customers like Meta, according to The Financial Times. This would make Arm a direct competitor to its current customers like Intel and AMD –– both of who make server chips for tech companies right now. The publication was reportedly able to get its hands on a recruitment note sent out by Arm, which read that the company is looking to hire an executive who could help in the company’s "transformation from solely designing processor architecture to also selling its own silicon, with a focus on driving AI enablement in the data center".
