They were apprehended on April 3 on the north bank of the Rio Grande in central El Paso, Texas, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection. The deaths of migrant children have prompted U.S. immigration authorities to increase medical checks of minors taken into custody along the country's southwest border. Last month, a 16-year-old boy died in a children's hospital in Corpus Christi, Texas, less than two weeks after he was detained and transferred to a child shelter contracted by the Office of Refugee Resettlement.
