Brian Mitchell poised to step aside for Rebecca White in Tasmanian seat of Lyons ahead of next federal election

Federal Lyons MP Brian Mitchell says he expects former Tasmanian Labor leader Rebecca White to seek party preselection to replace him at the next federal election, and will happily stand aside for her. Brian Mitchell says Rebecca White is "obviously very popular in Lyons for the right reasons, because she's a terrific local politician". One expert says Rebecca White's "really high personal vote in the state election might translate over to the next federal election" for Labor. "The state seat of Lyons has exactly the same boundaries as the federal seat of Lyons, so federal Labor seems to be banking on the idea that Rebecca White's really high personal vote in the state election might translate over to the next federal election," he said.
