Kwasi Kwarteng vows to name and shame firms failing to pass on fuel duty cuts
The TelegraphKwasi Kwarteng has ordered the competition watchdog to conduct an “urgent review” of the petrol market, including proposals to name and shame firms failing to pass on fuel duty cuts. Mr Kwarteng instructed the CMA to “increase the transparency that consumers have over prices”, after concerns were raised that petrol stations were failing to pass on the Government’s fuel duty cut. 'Wild fluctuations' Last month The Telegraph revealed Boris Johnson was “furious” that the 5p-a-litre cut to fuel duty announced in March was failing to materialise at many pumps. “Healthy competition between forecourts is key to achieving this, with competition working to keep pressure on prices.” The 5p fuel duty cut equates to a one-car family saving an average of £100 and is seen as a key part of the Government’s support to help people with rising costs of living.
