In terms of heart health, untreated gum disease can cause ongoing inflammation that spreads through the bloodstream, leading to damage to blood vessels. Research published in the American Heart Journal found that treating gum disease may improve endothelial function, a key indicator of cardiovascular health. Dr Nidhi Kohli Suri suggested ways to maintain proper oral hygiene: Regular brushing and flossing: Twice-daily brushing with fluoride toothpaste and daily flossing mitigate plaque accumulation and thwart bacterial proliferation, preserving gum health.
