MLC elections counting process underway in Karimnagar

The elaborate process of counting of votes polled in the MLC elections for the Medak-Nizamabad-Adilabad-Karimnagar Graduates’ and Teachers’ constituencies got underway at Dr. Ambedkar indoor stadium, the designated counting centre, in Karimnagar on Monday morning. The counting process is likely to stretch beyond 24 hours since ballot papers were used in the MLC elections in adherence to the preferential voting system. A total of 2,50,106 voters cast their ballots in the Graduates’ MLC polls and 24,895 teachers exercised their franchise in the Teachers’ MLC elections held on February 27, sealing the fate of 56 candidates in the Graduates’ constituency and 15 candidates in the Teachers’ segment, respectively. The Graduates’ MLC elections witnessed a tough electoral battle with the ruling Congress conducting an extensive election campaign to retain the seat and the BJP spearheading a whirlwind electioneering to wrest the seat in north Telangana.
