Beautiful Infrared Images of Saturn’s Moon During Sunset Leads to New Discovery

News 18

When we think of moons, we generally imagine barren and lifeless lands. NASA released a set of new sunset images of Enceladus, one of Saturn’s moons. The new discovery based on these infrared images suggests that the ice is fresh, leading the scientists to believe that there might be some activity going on around the moon’s surface. The database collected by Cassini’s Visual and Infrared Mapping Spectrometer was reanalysed recently and these infrared images came out as a result. This concludes that there has been active geothermal water heating across the moon’s surface, as images from North pole also reveal a fresh layer of crystalline ice.
