Lord Lebedev’s peerage should be investigated, insist Labour

The Telegraph

Lord Lebedev’s peerage should be investigated by Parliament’s Intelligence and Security Committee, Labour has said, after it was claimed that Britain’s security services dropped alleged concerns about his ennoblement after the intervention of the Prime Minister. Yvette Cooper, the shadow home secretary, said Boris Johnson should hand over any advice given to him by Britain’s spy agencies over his plan to award Lord Lebedev a peerage in 2020. On Sunday, Ms Cooper said the matter should now be investigated by the Intelligence and Security Committee - a group of parliamentarians who are allowed to access classified information and have the statutory duty to oversee the work of Britain’s intelligence agencies. “Given the gravity of these allegations, I am therefore calling on you to now make available to the Intelligence and Security Committee the advice and information you were given about the ennobling of Evgeny Lebedev and full information about the role you played in the process.”
