A post office and life’s lessons
The HinduIt stands its ground, unapologetically, with its low roof and insipid interiors. The post office could easily be passed by without a second glance, for such is its location – lying low amidst tall grass, off a gulmohar tree-lined road leading to a dead end where the road dips into a creek covered with floating moss and algae. The post office stands sandwiched between two sprawling campuses of an upcoming residential project. The builder’s hoarding hanging precariously over the post office boasts, “Residents have their own post office.” Unfair, is how I feel about this announcement, because it steals credit from the small structure, trivialises its resoluteness and its triumphant victory over bulldozing modernity. I look forward to my next visit because whenever I walk into this post office, it feels surreal, as if civilisation gave it the miss.
