Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Bill 2019 passed in Rajya Sabha, traffic violators will have to pay hefty fines now
India TodayThe Upper House of the Parliament on Wednesday passed the Motor Vehicles Bill, 2019, that seeks to improve road safety, enhance manifold the penalty for traffic violations, facilitate citizens in their dealings with transport departments and boot out corruption. Introducing the Bill in the Rajya Sabha, Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari said that every year there are millions of deaths due to road accidents and it is the government's responsibility to stop them. The Motor Vehicles Bill, 2019, is based on the recommendations of the Group of Transport Ministers of States, which was constituted by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. Based on the recommendations of the GoM, the Road Transport and Highways Ministry had introduced the Motor Vehicle Bill, 2016, which was passed by the Lok Sabha in April 2017.
